ROOFLESS: HIDEOUT
Detroit, MI

Hideout is the phased design and construction of a private workshop studio and secret forest in Detroit, Michigan. Hideout saves the walls of a more than century-old roof-less sawdust building. The structural re-working of the building reworks and solidifies the wall keeping its protective legacy, while permitting it to stand free and incorporate the surrounding trees. The next phase re-introduces live trees back into the building and positions a free-standing glass studio structure within a small portion of the internal space, allowing the rest to remain as an internal treed courtyard and respite.
